Moffat has been voted 'The Best Kept Village in Scotland' and has won the 'Scotland in Bloom' award. The village has something to suit everybody with plenty of quaint shops and fresh local produce. There is lots to explore around Moffat, with historic border towns nearby, such as Peebles. Moffat itself has has magnificent vistas of the surrounding area.  Moffat is surrounded by breathtaking walks such as Grey Mares Tail and Devil's Beeftub.
Moffat makes a perfect base to visit some of the key attractions of Scotland such as Drumlanrig Castle (20min) Gretna Green (30min), Selkirk (50min), Edinburgh (1hr), Glasgow (1hr), Stirling (1hr 20min) and Loch Lomond (1hr 50min).   Bridge House is the ideal stopover on your way to and from the highlands of Scotland

Coming from the North or South on the M74, Moffat is off Junction 15 along the A701 scenic route to Edinburgh

Local Amenities

Moffat also has a large boating lake, a putting green and a children's play area at Station Park. Hope-Johnson Park offers a bowling green, tennis courts, a football pitch and a skateboard half pipe.

There are many local walks directly from Bridge House through a variety of countryside. Plenty of forests trails and challenging hills await you. There are two famous nearby areas in particular that you cannot afford to miss:

Devil’s Beef Tub is a deep, dramatic hollow in the hills, only 20 minutes north of Moffat. You can enjoy the lovely views by paragliding or through the many walks available.

Grey Mare’s Tail waterfall is especially breathtaking in the spring and summer months, when heather blossoms on the hills. Grey Mare’s Tail was carved out by glaciers during the last ice age leaving an outlet from Loch Skene that falls about 300 feet down a sheer cliff face. Grey Mare’s Tail offers a variety of walking trails for every skill level, and it is located only 15 minutes drive from Bridge House. You can also do ice climbing in the winter months.

The Moffat Golf Club is just a few minutes drive away. Situated in the heart of the picturesque southern hills you can enjoy the panoramic views. It’s a moorland course, that offers a challenge to golfers of all abilities and is guaranteed to give you a great Scottish golfing experience.

Hunting and Fishing

Moffat has excellent opportunities for deer stalking and game shooting at near by estates. The pheasants, partridges and mallards are all locally reared. The season lasts for longer than 100 days per year, and caters for whatever your requirements may be. The owners of Bridge House can offer advice when planning your trip and can put you in touch with shoots in the area such as Buccleuch sporting.

Alternatively, you can enjoy fly, bait or coarse fishing in the many lochs nearby Moffat.

Mountain Biking and Cycling
Moffat is the ideal countryside surrounding for cyclists, no matter what level of ability. You can cruise along the country roads taking in the amazing views at your leisure or race ‘off road’ down the hillsides on the many mountain biking trails.

In fact, Bridge House is only a short distance from the internationally acclaimed and custom built 7 Stanes Project, a mountain bike haven. Moffat is also connected to the national cycle network providing ample marked cycle routes for you to enjoy.

We can provide bike storage and access to outdoor washing facilities for the bikes. The Scottish mountain biking championship is based close by near Drumlanrig.

Cultural Sightseeing

The magnificent Drumlanrig Castle was commissioned in 1691 by William Douglas, the first Duke of Queensberry, and represents one of the first and most important Renaissance buildings in the country. It is also the home of the Duke & Duchess of Buccleuch and Queensberry, KBE. Enjoy a stroll through the impressive gardens or lunch at the tearoom of this prestigious country estate. The estate also hosts falconry displays, shooting and the Galloway Country Fair.

Also closeby are Langholm estate, Bowhill estate, Dalkeith country park and house.

The historic town of Peebles lies only 30 minutes away from Bridge House. It is a very popular tourist destination, especially in the summer with many attractions including Kailzie Gardens and Neidpath Castle. Peebles also has the highest shoe shop to population ratio in the UK. In fact, it has won multiple awards for an excellent range of shops on its High Street.

Moffat is on the scenic route to Edinburgh, which offers fantastic shopping, historical sightseeing, and a host of other activities.
